    I Am A Teacher (IAAT)

IAAT is a not-for-profit organization founded in the year 2014 by Harvard University Alumni, with the primary purpose to serve the education space by building a model of excellence in teacher education. It offers both pre-service and in-service programmes for aspiring and practicing educators respectively, through its Gurgaon and Mumbai centres. Its vision is to transform education by preparing a critical mass of teachers who lead change in and through classrooms. It is committed towards bringing high standards of quality and excellence in teacher preparation and development.

Post Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching (PGDLT)

PGDLT is a full-time, innovative, practice-based teacher preparation programme. It seeks to drive high standards of quality and excellence amongst aspiring educators and enables them to design and deliver a 21st-century curriculum. The programme offers a unique blend of theory and practice and also has an extensive mentoring and coaching component. The programme seeks to address the issues that afflict the teacher preparation programmes offered currently in the country.

This 10-month programme starts in the month of June in Gurgaon and in July in Mumbai and is based on the premise that progressive model schools in the country need to be the ground for practice and learning for aspiring teachers.

    The PGDLT Difference

The practice-based residency model is inspired by the teacher residency model in the US and has the potential to support systematic change in education. The programme is rooted in practice that provides experiences in real classroom situations and offers a unique synthesis of theory and practice that feed into each other.

Extensive support is provided to student teachers through cognitive coaching and mentoring by Collaborating Teachers and Teacher Educators. Multiple observation and coaching cycles enable the student teacher to evolve their practice.

The focus is on developing a mindful outlook on education that begins with being conscious of what we are feeling, thinking & doing and reflecting on the underlying beliefs, predispositions or assumptions. This is based on the belief that change is sustainable only when it is driven from the inside.

Expert academicians and experienced practitioners demonstrate what it is to be a reflective, passionate, capable, collaborative and inclusive practitioner. They not only bring with them the best theoretical frameworks and knowledge but also demonstrate how to deliver it most effectively.

Full support is provided in transitioning into becoming an independent educator, both through our Gradual Release of Responsibility Model and our comprehensive placement services that has successfully placed more than 90% of the previous batches.

    PGDLT Graduate Profile

    SELF-AWARE HUMAN
The Journey begins by helping the residents to tune inwards and connect with their inner self. They introspect deeply upon their notions about themselves, people, education, and the purpose of their lives. They are offered an opportunity to question their assumptions and belief, become curious about the world outside and develop fresh perspectives to view teaching and learning from.
    COLLABORATIVE PROFESSIONAL
Resident-teachers learn about teaching through participation in a community of learners, guided observation and engagement in practice. They embrace diversity, become sensitive to the requirements of student learning and develop a sense of discernment that brings out the best in all students.
    REFLECTIVE PRACTITIONER
Resident-teachers learn by integrating theory with practice - confident in disciplinary knowledge and developing a set of core practices to support them in responding to student's ideas, analysing classroom experiences and evaluating their teaching and learning to reflect upon its complexity. Classroom experiences provide them with concrete examples to substantiate their ideas and theories, debate, discuss and deliberate these with a common language in mind.
    LIFELONG LEARNER
Resident Teachers are encouraged to become adaptive, critical and creative thinkers and potential curriculum leaders. They engage in a process of conscious learning throughout their lives directed towards meeting their individual needs and that of the relevant community. They not only develop as individuals, responsible to themselves and their communities, but involve actively at all levels of their society.
